  • Inland Boaters prove it’s party over petroleum

Now here’s a lesson in lifestyle

I was cruising through the Inland Boater forum when I came across a conversation between my friends Brains646, Salt and BayBay’s Kid. I’ve used their screen names so non members can see how much fun we have in the Inland Boater forum. All three are subscribers to Inland Boater Magazine. Only Brains has an IB Cruisin T-shirt, but I’m happy to announce that Salt and BayBay’s Kid are about to get theirs too.

Anyway, Brains was describing his weekend cruise to a concert at Chene Park on the Detroit River. Here’s the story:

“If any of you ever get a chance to get up to the D during the season, make sure to try and check out a concert at Chene park. We went and saw Jill Scott last night and it was a great show. Not to mention I counted at least 65 boats and the bulk of them were captained by people of color. I’ll have more pics later.....from another concert this wednesday, Mint Condition and After 7!”

The outing proves that for Inland Boaters it’s party over petroleum prices.
I’m all for that and the folks on the Detroit river aren’t alone in their determination to float at all costs. I spent some time last week in Chicago and I can tell you that rumors of boatings demise, at least among people of color, are greatly exaggerated.

The Windy City was teaming with boats on the lake. Where boaters stayed at the docks there was still a whole lot of party going on.
Tyrone, one of my new friends on the Chicago boating scene offered this advice (after a couple of drinks and two rounds of the cha cha slide) to those who love the boating life as much as he does.

“Whenever we want to protest something in this great country we burn it. So I guess the best way to protest the high price of gas is to burn it.”

    Amen.
