Hey Salt and Big fifty,

Have you guys thought about bulk fuel purchases. With all the boaters there in Michigan at least, you might be able to pre-purchase a bunch of fuel at a discount rate through your marina. This might make cruising hurt a little less. How about texas. Can’t you guys buy an oil well or something? If you do, send a truck up here, I probably use 1200 gallons or more a season.

Here’s a party.
Deboaters yacht club is having its annual Memorial Weekend bash on Saturday May 24 at Solomons Yachting center on the Patuxent River. Folks from many of the Chesapeake’s African American yacht clubs usually join in, and it’s a great party that includes the members of Solomons Yachting center. there are usually about 200 people between the clubs and the yachting center. Solomons is a great place, quiet and relaxing, definitely a cruise worth taking sometime during the season.

I won’t cruise without a hand held radio and GPS unit. My fixed mount radio and Chart plotter work just fine, but a back-up to all navigation and safety equipment can go a long way when you’re on the water. On one occasion I was returning to port from a short cruise when the winds and waves picked up rather abruptly. A wave broke over the bow and drenched the cockpit. My fixed mount radio went out. Fortunately I had a water proof hand held back-up. Five miles of rough weather is no joke, so it made all the difference in the world to know that I could still call for help.

Well, last weekend ended up being one of those perfect weekends on the water. I went down to the marina to “make sure everything is ok,” and got lucky. There was absolutely no one there. The wind was blowing gently and the temperature was 50 degrees. Sun was out and the skies were clear. I sat in the cockpit, opened a bottle of chardonay, looked out to the horizon and that was all she wrote. Best day a guy could have. I even took a little nap. I guess everything was ok!
