IGY NEWPORT YACHT CLUB & MARINA TO UNDERGO MEGA YACHT EXPANSION
JERSEY CITY, NJ – Island Global Yachting (IGY) has announced that Newport Yacht Club and Marina will undergo an expansion that will significantly increase the number of berths available to mega yachts.
Eric Simonton, Director of Development and Asset Management for IGY, said Newport Yacht Club and Marina has been a valuable addition to the IGY network of marinas the company has determined that there is a large unmet demand for quality berthing in close proximity to New York City. He said IGY construction is scheduled to be completed toward the end of 2011,
“The Newport Yacht Club and Marina expansion will allow more people to visit the marina and enjoy all that it has to offer and its convenient access to New York City,” said Simonton. “The capital investment at this time is a signal of our confidence in the property, as well as the northeastern U.S. boating market.”
The facility, which was purchased by IGY in October 2009, is located in New York Harbor and in close proximity to Manhattan and Newark Airport. It has 154 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 200 feet with 12 mega yacht berths.
Signature features of the marina include an onsite Westin Hotel and many restaurants and shops; inner basin parallel docks for superyachts, transient finger slip for vessels up to 60 feet; 24-hour dock and perimeter security with closed circuit cameras; in-water winter storage; an onsite PATH subway station; and a helipad.
Founded in 2005, IGY’s core business includes luxury yacht marinas and the surrounding upland real estate properties. The company’s global network includes marinas in the Americas, the Caribbean, Mexico, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
