Hobie Introduces Two Kayaks
Hobie Mirage Oasis Paddle Boat Features MirageDrive Technology
OCEANSIDE, CA – Hobie Cat has introduced two new recreational kayaks, one with the company’s patented MirageDrive pedal system and a traditional paddle boat.
The Odyssey is a paddle kayak described by Hobie as a, “family-oriented, go-anywhere, do-anything boat.” The hull is designed to accommodate two people, but a molded-in center seat position makes it easily adaptable for one person.
The Odyssey joins an arsenal of Hobie paddle boats that includes the Kona, which is shorter than the Odyssey with a width normally found in bigger boats; the Lanai, built for solo paddling; the Maui, a solo paddle boat which is longer and faster than the Lanai; and the Quest, a fishing kayak.
The defining feature on Hobie’s other new boat, the Mirage Oasis, is the MirageDrive, which allows kayakers to propel themselves faster than they can with traditional paddles. The pedals can also can be used in conjunction with a paddle.
With MirageDrive, two self-centering padded pedals are connected to underwater flippers. Steering is controlled with new oversized fingertip steering handles.
Other Hobie boats using the MirageDrive technology include the solo kayaks Mirage Adventure, Mirage Outback, Mirage Revolution and the Mirage Sport, and a tandem model, the Mirage Outfitter.
