Haitian Relief Concert at Yacht Haven Grande
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – A special concert at the Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas raised more than $37,000 for relief efforts in Haiti.
More than 2,000 people attended the event and donations came not only from concert attendees, but from several local businesses. The money was designated for the Haitian relief efforts of the American Red Cross, said Kenny Jones, executive vice president of Marina Operations for Island Global Yachting, parent company of Yacht Haven Grande.
“It was a truly wonderful and inspiring event for a cause close to all our hearts,” Jones said. “The entire island of St. Thomas came together to join with us at Yacht Haven Grande to support our Caribbean brothers in need and we are so proud to make this donation to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.”
The concert on Saturday, January 23, featured live music by Web from the Buzz, Barefoot Davis, the Becca Darling Band, Down the Line and the Ahwee Band. All of the bands donated their performances.
Also featured was Dr. Julia Gardner, who was one of the first physicians to arrive in Haiti with medical supplies and performed many life-saving surgeries. Dr. Gardner sang an original song that she wrote entitled, “Hope for Haiti.”
Also in attendance were Senate President Louis Patrick Hill, the point person for Haitian relief in the Legislature of the Virgin Islands, and Donna Christensen, the U.S. Virgin Islands’ delegate to Congress.
